NavCenter Technical FAQ

Q. How do I display the weather in MaxSea Software?

A. Once you have downloaded and unzipped the files, place them in a convenient location that you will remember. I generally place them on the "Desktop" or in the "My Documents" folder. Start up your MaxSea software and go to the "File" menu, choose "Open". Choose the File Format "Utilities", which will automatically select Type "Grib Weather". Next, find the .grb file, open it, and make it the active screen. At this point, weather data will be available for viewing with the charts.

The weather information that is provided at present is NOAA off shore. Some areas like Nantucket Sound and the Great Lakes, which NOAA treats as inshore, are not currently available. We are in the process of trying to obtain this information through other sources.

Note: The barbed-wind indicators are similar to arrows. The wind moves in the direction of the point. The wind velocity is indicated by the number and length of the "feathers" attached to the indicator.
